Fortis Mining, Engineering & Manufacturing is currently recruiting for the position of Fabricator. The Fabricator’s primary responsibilities are varied and include production welding, service and repair welding, prototype building, and custom fabrication. Responsibilities will include the fabrication of custom prototypes from supplied drawings, fabrication of custom jigs and fixtures to produce production parts that meet customer specifications, as well as the fabrication of metal structures using jigs and fixtures in a high paced production environment.
This position will work with Supervisors and Lead Hands to ensure continuous improvements in work cells, hitting quotas, welding according to pre-set parameters using MIG (Metal Inert Gas), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding processes. The Fabricator will be required to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test will be required as a condition of employment.

Monday – Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm
Friday – Sunday, 6:00am to 7:00pm

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fabrication and Welding tasks
- Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux- cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW)
- Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
- Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines
- Conduct repairs, modifications, and retrofits
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair techniques
- Adhere and comply with company policies and Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations
- Maintain safe work practices
- Travel to jobsite to perform onsite welding and field fits, as required
- Other duties as assigned
- Machine inspection and maintenance
- Maintain and clean all machines and tools
- Report requirements for repairs to supervisor
- Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports
- Processing jobs according to defined company policies and protocols
- Receive instructions from Welding Supervisor for each job
- Provide details necessary to administration office for job number assignment
- Review, understand, and complete work order
- Follow detailed instructions on the order and ask for clarification prior to starting the job
- Ensure all parts and components used in the recertification process are recorded to the job number
- Accurate and detailed tracking of time spent on jobs
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Valid CWB welding certification, GMAW and SMAW, certified in all positions
- Minimum of one (1) year experience welding in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred but not required
- Any safety-related training and certificates would be beneficial, but not required
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
- Possess welding and fabrication skills and knowledge
- Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools
- Experience with routine maintenance operations
- Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
- Ability to use judgment and apply discretion when making decisions
- Strong time-management skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Possess a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times
